Outdoor and walk and talk counselling takes the therapy outdoors. It can be an appealing option for many who find the formality of a traditional therapeutic setting uncomfortable, or for whom online or telephone sessions are not possible.
Outdoor therapy involves a gentle walk, or a sit down, in nature. It is not an intended therapeutic connection with nature, nor an exercise class, although benefits of both can still be experienced. The intended therapeutic outcomes remain centred on the client/counsellor relationship and the talking elements of therapy.
Locations are chosen to minimise intrusion and maximise privacy, although neither of these factors can be protected fully.
What you share in the sessions will, however, remain confidential (subject to ethical and legal limits).
